dietMany people go on diets sporadically. They will decide that it is time to lose weight, and jump onto the latest fad diet. These diets can be effective, but they do not offer long term results. If you want to maintain proper health you need to eat right all of the time. Here are some tips to make your daily eating habits more effective.

Calorie counting. Daily diets will usually be based on some form of calorie intake. If you are looking to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in. As a general rule, you can multiply your weight, to get your average calorie count. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, eating 1500 calories a day will help you to maintain you weight. If you want to lose weight, you need to eat less than that.

But daily diets are not all about losing weight, they are about eating healthy and maintaining good health. You need to eat fruit and vegetables every day. Fruits and vegetables contain the vitamins that our bodies need to grow. If we do not eat fruits and vegetables we might not get the nutrition that we need. It is a good idea to have fruits and vegetables at every meal. You may find this hard at first, but getting some color into your meals is a very good thing.

Another tip for daily diets is to eat many small meals a day, instead of eating two or three big meals. Most people say that 6 small meals a day will be beneficial for you. Eating multiple meals will keep your metabolism working  all day. It will also help you not to binge eat which you might do if you only eat one or two meals a day.

How can you avoid hunger while you are dieting?

tramezzinoNow, that’s a good question and one I have had to find the answer to, as I am currently dieting and have been quite hungry – up until now! Has hunger struck you down in your tracks whilst dieting? I’m hearing you! :(

One of the main reasons that people cheat on their dieting plan or just give up altogether is that simply, they’re hungry.

Being hungry all the time is difficult to live with for a day, much less for weeks on end. There are some solutions so you can avoid hunger and I’m going to share them with you today!

Here are some tips to make sure that hunger pangs don’t derail all of your hard work.

Whatever you do, don’t skip breakfast, or you will starving and cranky by mid-morning. A breakfast with complex carbs and low fat protein will help stave off hunger and snack attacks.

Eat sufficient protein when you are dieting. Scientific studies show that protein leaves people feeling full longer than carbohydrates does.

Make sure that you have some fat included in your diet – you need some. Choose healthy fats, like olive oil. Mediterranean people include a lot of olive oil in their cooking and they have famously low rates of obesity and heart disease.

Plan ahead. Make sure that you have low calorie snacks and drinks with you. Drink plenty of water and eat snacks like celery or apple slices.

Stay away from sugary snacks and simple carbohydrates like sticky buns, cake and donuts. If you eat them your blood sugar will soar, and then it will crash and you will find yourself irritable, jittery and famished. Munchie moments follow quickly!

Take note of what times of day your hunger really kicks in and plan your meals and snacks accordingly. If you always cave in around 4 p.m., schedule a snack for 3:30 and drink a big glass of water too.

Don’t cut your calories too drastically when trying to lose weight. It will make your metabolism slow down and cause you to be plagued with hunger all of the time.

Eat several servings of bulky low calorie foods a day. Broccoli, cauliflower, salads, most vegetables…these will fill you up and help stave off hunger.

Eat complex carbohydrates half an hour to an hour before exercising to fuel your workout session and also so you don’t end up feeling absolutely ravenous afterwards.

Good luck on your dieting mission! Avoid hunger and you will be far more likely to stick to your weight reduction plan. If you follow the above tips you will find it’s pretty easy to avoid hunger whilst you are dieting! Let me know how you go :)

Well. today I want to discuss The Link Between Diet and Stress

Ever thought that, if you ate differently, you might be better able to handle the stress in your life better? Do you ever wonder how stress might affect what you eat? No matter which way you look at it, stress and food are related. There are many things that you can do to help deal with your stress without resorting to food as your crutch.

Your Stress and Your Diet

When you look at all of the ways that diet and stress are interwoven, it’s hard to deny the fact that the foods you eat affect how you think, feel, and react. After all, an unhealthy diet not only stresses your body, but your mind as well. A good starting point is to evaluate your daily diet and make one change at a time to create that healthy lifestyle you deserve.

Not Just the Diet

A healthy and balanced diet can help you manage stress much more effectively, but simply eating right is not enough to help you deal with stress. There are many different things you can do to help control and manage your stress such as:

* Getting 7-8 hours of sleep at night
* Making time to relax
* Having a support system
* Knowing your limits
* Proactively planning and organizing
* Being able to say no

How Your Diet and Stress Are Related

* When you’re stressed out you’re more likely to either over-eat or under eat. When you do either of these things you are negatively impacting your blood glucose levels and your moods may swing violently, which will only create conflict and intensify your stress. Unfortunately, most of us don’t realize how we can sabotage ourselves with food! Once you become aware of your stress response, you can make the choice to change it.

* Food cannot cure stress, but it can help. When you eat nutritious foods you are giving your body what it needs to deal with your daily demands. In other words, when you eat the proper foods you are giving your body the fuel it needs to make it through common stressful situations. When you predominantly eat sugars and fats in your diet, your body doesn’t have all of the nutrients and energy supplies needed to deal with stress, so instead, you’re more likely to feel grouchy, tired, or anxious.

* Stress breaks down the immune system, while the right foods can help support it. Time and time again, studies have proven that stress makes our immune system weaker, leaving us exposed to dangerous viruses, bacteria, and illnesses. It has also been proven that when you eat the right foods you’re helping your body build and maintain a healthy immune system. The key here is simple: Eat right, feel great!

These are just a few stress solutions that, in addition to healthy eating, will help you limit and control the stress in your life. When you incorporate even just a few of these healthy living strategies into your life, you’ll find that overwhelming stress is a thing of the past; and the weight will be lifted off your shoulders (and thighs!)

Dont think that stress will just disolve overnight though!
When we feel anxiety and stress it has usually been building for a while and in just the same way, will need a while to disappear!

The good thing to know though – is that if you use your new found knowledge on what links diet and stress and put it to good use, your diet will make you healthierand your stress will be gone alot faster than if you dont!
